An overwhelming amount of silverware and a sea of plates were demystified last Wednesday at Lehigh Country Club. The annual Etiquette dinner, tasked with educating students on how to act in formal networking situations, went extremely well. The event featured etiquette professionals Sheryl Trower and Duffy Johnson who educated the students on a wide variety of networking and dining situations. The students also were seated with local Penn State alumni and faculty in order to practice their newly learned skills. The event started off with a “Mocktail” hour where students learned how to properly address others and some tips on introductions. One of the most difficult lessons taught was attempting to balance your plate on top of your drink in order to shake a hand. After some initial widespread panic and a few close calls, the students mastered this feat. After the first hour, students made their way into the dining room to learn more about proper dining etiquette. This included which utensils to begin with, drink and plate placement, and a wide variety of situational lessons. The students were provided an excellent meal to practice their etiquette with, including delicious grilled chicken and a delectable brownie with sweet vanilla ice cream.

Liam Ross had good things to say about his meal,”Lehigh really did a good job with the dinner tonight, I really enjoyed the chicken and the desert.”

After the meal the students got the opportunity to discuss being a professional with the alumni seated at their table. All the students greatly appreciated the alumni and faculty for taking time out of their busy schedules to come meet and have dinner with the students. The night was a great success and provided the students with an immense amount of tips and lessons that they will be able to utilize in the future.
