The Oscars are this Sunday and with it comes the award for ‘Best Original Song’. While only five songs were nominated for the award, that doesn’t mean that there were only five good songs from all the movies last year. The following few songs are from movies nominated this Sunday that also deserve a listen.

“Runnin'” – Pharrell Williams from Hidden Figures

Based on the fact that Pharrell Williams did the soundtrack for Hidden Figures, it’s a surprise that not a single song from the movie was nominated for an Oscar. You should check out the whole album, but if you only have time for one song, make sure to check out “Runnin'”. The song feels like it comes straight out of the 1960s, and you’ll be snapping your fingers along to the beat.

“Start A Fire” – John Legend from La La Land

La La Land shows how good of a musical it is, by not only having two songs nominated for ‘Best Original Song’, but also having a song that could be considered better than the two nominated in “Start A Fire”. The song has a catchy beat, and John Legend nails the vocals like usual, leading to a solid song.

“Heathens” – Twenty One Pilots from Suicide Squad

If you listened to the radio at all during the summer you probably heard “Heathens” being played at some point. Twenty One Pilots are one of the most popular groups right now, so it was definitely a good decision to have them create a song for the summer blockbuster, Suicide Squad.

“You’re Welcome” – Dwayne Johnson from Moana

Moana,  like La La Land, isn’t just a one song movie. The film has a few songs that you’ll be left humming after seeing the movie, and “You’re Welcome” is one of them.  “You’re Welcome” is upbeat, and should be listened to, if only to hear The Rock sing a Disney song.

“Try Everything” – Shakira from Zootopia

Zootopia was one of the best animated films last year, and that can bee seen in its Oscar nomination for ‘Best Animated Feature Film’. While it wasn’t a movie filled with songs, Zootopia did have the feel good song, “Try Everything,” by Shakira. The song fit perfectly with the theme of  the movie, that you should never give up and always try for your dreams.
